The Hare and the Tortoise Aesop fables
"I have never yet been beaten," said he.
The Tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."
"That is a good joke," said the Hare.
"I could dance round you all the way."
"Keep your boasting till youve won," answered the Tortoise. "Shall we race?"
So a course was fixed and a start was made.
The Hare darted out of sight at once.
Soon, knowing that he was far ahead, he stopped to have a nap.
Meanwhile, the Tortoise plodded along, slowly and steadily.
When the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise nearing the finish line.
The Hare leaped up and ran as fast as he could.
But he was not in time.
The Tortoise won the race.
